Adam's first trip to the dentist

The trip to the dentist went so much better than I expected. The day started with a video. He was pretty dissappointed it wasn't Thomas the Tank Engine, but managed to sit through it none the less. Then came time to show the hygentist how he brushed his teeth. He did it better than what he does at home, but was very bothered that he didn't get to use toothpaste. He even let the hygentist brush his teeth while standing at the sink.
Then came time to see the actual dentist chair. The very sweet hygentist said, "Okay Adam, it is your turn to sit in the chair." He looked around at the other kids in chairs, looked at me, and then looked at her and said, "Or not."

He thought the tools were cool and loved squirting water into a cup and then sucking it up with the electric straw. And may I say that the dentist, Dr. Frank, was awesome. Even though Adam didn't get his teeth cleaned and never sat in the chair, he did let Dr. Frank count his teeth and see that we are starting to see some effects from the thumb sucking. He reassured me that when he does stop the habit all effects should fix themselves.
Dr. Frank was so great that he dug through the treasure chest to try to find a train for Adam, but to no avail. So 2 cars and no visible cavities are all he walked away with. We'll try again in 6 months.

love 'or not!!!' our first trip to the dentist, alla let them count her teeth while sitting in the chair, that was it. then we got the book 'just going to the dentist' by mercer mayer, and that made all the difference 6 months later. she let them brush and floss. this last time we went, she let them use the actual electric deal on her teeth, with chocolate paste, no less, and there was no fuss. and she's STILL carrying around the little fish she got from the dentist 2 months ago.
